League Rules

Eligibility of Players

  1. All players who have not previously played for another team during the season are eligible to play.
  2. Players may play for more than one team if they are first transferred. Transfers can only be made with the permission of the General Secretary. All transfers are to be accompanied with the transfer fee of £5, cheques made out to Amersham & District Pool League or ADPL. Transfers will not be allowed following the halfway point of the season.

Playing conditions

  1. Playing conditions must be fair for both teams, if a Captain feels conditions are unfair towards his/her team then the match should not be played and the Captain should contact the League Secretary immediately.
  2. All matches must start at 8pm on the day scheduled.
  3. Matches can only be rearranged with the permission of the League Secretary. Rearranged Matches must be played within five days of the original fixture date even after permission has been given.
  4. If a team is not ready to start at 8pm the opposition must give them some grace until 10 past when the first leg can be claimed, the second leg at 20 minutes past and the match at 8.30pm. To claim a leg place a 'C' in the W/L box on the card. To concede a leg place a 'X' in the W/L box. To claim the match write claimed across the card but don`t forget to fill out the name of your team, date and sign the card.
  5. It is thought courtesy to provide sandwiches or similar for both teams, however, this is up to the venue and the league has no jurisdiction in this matter.
  6. In order for a Match to commence both teams must have at least 3 players present. Any team which does not have 3 players present must forfeit the match.
  7. The playing surface and lighting must be of a reasonable standard. The definition of a reasonable standard is left to the two Captains concerned but if the two captains cannot agree that they are of reasonable standard then the match should not take place. In such circumstances the League Secretary should be informed immediately. The League Secretary will take the case to the League Committee, if the committee feel conditions were in fact substandard they will order the Match played at a neutral venue.

Captain's Responsibility

  1. A Captain is responsible for the behaviour of his / her team and can be held accountable for any unacceptable behaviour.
  2. If a team cannot attend an arranged match, either one on the fixtures, cup match or a rearranged fixture. The Captain must give at least 24 hours notice to the opposition team.
  3. The League Secretary will inform Captains of cup, singles and doubles draws. It is the Captain's responsibility to inform his / her players.
  4. If your venue is chosen to host singles, doubles or cup matches, as a Captain playing out of that venue you are responsible for informing the Manager of your venue.
  5. The captain of the team is responsible for filling out the match card and ensuring it reaches the League Secretary. If you delegate this responsibility, the league will still hold you responsible in the event of penalty points, lost cards etc.
  6. A Captain is not obliged to rearrange a match if requested to by another team. Any team refused a rearrangement has no right of appeal.
  7. A Captain is responsible for ensuring any players involved in Singles or Doubles rounds know the playing format and the procedure for making sure the result reaches the League Secretary. Ignorance of the rules or procedures will not be accepted as an excuse / reason for the League Secretary not knowing the result. Any results not known by the Saturday following the round will mean elimination of players concerned.

Match Card

  1. All parts of the match card must be filled out.
  2. If you give the match card to the opposition captain to hand in you are still responsible for the card and penalty points can still be received in the event of the card being late or going missing.
  3. A match card is only considered delivered if handed in to Jays Newsagents (Address on the card), delivered by postal delivery or handed to Vinny Patel or Dave Givens, by 12PM (noon) on the Saturday following the match. This includes cup matches
  4. In the absence of the Captain another player may assume responsibility for filling out the match card, however he / she must make sure the opposition are aware of this.
  5. Once a name is added to the match card it cannot be changed.
  6. The playing order, once it has been filled out, must be followed.

Cup, Singles and Doubles Competitions

(All cup, singles and Doubles matches come under the jurisdiction of the League Secretary)

  1. Singles and Doubles matches are, unless otherwise stated, the best of 3 frames
  2. Referees are not normally allocated to Singles and Doubles matches.
  3. A toss of a coin will determine who breaks with the winner of the toss having the choice. There will not be a second toss, with breaks alternating until a winner is found.
  4. Doubles matches will be 'Scotch Doubles'. Once a break has commenced no communication between the pair playing is allowed.
  5. The winner of each venue is responsible for making sure the result of the venue reaches the League Secretary by 12pm (noon) on the Saturday following the competition. If the League Secretary does not know the winner of a venue by the deadline then the player/s concerned will be eliminated.
  6. Following a cup match each team are responsible for making sure the match card reaches the address on the back of the match card by 12pm (noon) on the Saturday following the match. If the League Secretary does not know the winner of a venue by the deadline then the team concerned will be eliminated.
  7. All cup matches are the best of eleven frames.
  8. Although it is only necessary to play the amount of frames required to find a winner, the second half of the match card must be filled out in full following frame 6. Failure to do this may mean the result is reversed.

Points Awarded & Deducted

  1. Points will be awarded for the following:
    • 3 points for a win
      1 point for a draw
      3 points in the event of claiming the match
        (A 9 - 3 win will be added to the frame +/- column)
  2. Points will be deducted for the following, when a team collects three penalty points 1 point will be deducted from their points total.
    • 1 point for a missing name
      1 point for a lost card
      3 points for a missing card
        (A card is considered missing if it has not arrived within 2 weeks of the original deadline date)
      3 points for not fulfilling a fixture (A 9 - 3 loss will be added to the frame +/- column)
      If there are 3 or more penalty point errors on any one match card 3 penalty points will be deducted, in addition to this any points won will be forfeited.

Promotion & Relegation

  1. The top two teams in a division will be promoted and the bottom two will be relegated.

Complaints and Appeals

  1. All complaints and appeals must be in writing to:

  2. The appeal/complaint will be heard at the next committee meeting. You must include a return address so the result of your appeal/complaint can be explained in full.
  3. Only appeals/complaints made in writing to the above address will be considered.
